If you haven’t read this post for more information on the heart of God or why we should engage these kinds of prayers, please do so first. I would also humbly ask for your additions to these prayers in the comments as I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to work on these, but feel they are important to share right now. These prayers of justice against the wicked are just as important as our prayers for justice/restoration for survivors.
Oh God, we ask permission to enter your heavenly court room by the blood of Jesus Christ, your Son and our advocate. We know that the ability to come before you here in the courts of heaven, seeking justice, has only been granted to us through the shed blood of Your Son, Jesus, our intercessor and advocate. We ask Holy Spirit to come and be present and for the blood of Jesus to cleanse our hearts of all unrighteousness. We stand before you loved, forgiven, and unashamed. According to Psalm 89:14, righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne, and Your love and Your faithfulness go before you. You are the One Who avenges blood and you remember. You do not ignore the cry of the afflicted. (Ps 9:12) You are known by your justice (Ps. 9:16), so we stand before your throne today and ask that You would ARISE Lord, and let not these wicked men triumph, for the very nations are judged in your presence. Strike these captors with terror and let them know today that they are but men. (Ps.9:19-20)
God, your Word states that he who sacrifices thank offerings honors you and prepares the way so that You may show him the salvation of God. (Ps.50:23) So, today, Father, we stand before You and offer our thanks to You for your unfailing love towards us and those survivors whose justice we seek today. For you are the Mighty One, God, the Lord, who speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets. From Zion, perfect in beauty, You shine forth, O God. You word says that You will come and will not be silent, for a fire devours before you and around you a tempest rages. You summon the heavens above and the earth, that You may judge your people. (Ps.50:1-4) So we stand before You today, with hearts full of thanksgiving for Your love, Your mercy, Your justice, Your perfection in beauty, Your righteousness and Your salvation.
We call upon You today in this day where we can feel Your heart burning in anger against these wicked ones who have caused precious innocents to be harmed and even to lose their way. We ask that you would speed the day of their justice, Father. We know that you will not let the wicked go on in their ways forever – that you have promised that You will bring them to an end. Today we are asking you to bring a swift end to their earthly reign of terror. We ask for exposure and for them to be left without refuge so that they may face earthly justice now. We know that what we are asking for – earthly justice – is merely drops of the river that will roll down on their heads in the end. Even so, Father, hear our cries – we plead with you today to begin to release Your justice against these wicked in our land who have robbed and murdered and oppressed and destroyed the innocent for too long.
We seek to pray according to Your Word and truth, and we humbly ask Holy Spirit, that you would translate our words before the Father. We trust today in your unfailing love for ever and ever. We praise you forever for what you have done; in your Name we will hope, for your Name is good. (Ps.52:8-9)
God Your Word states that you are angry with the wicked every day (Ps. 7:11). You have promised that the power of the wicked will be broken (Ps. 37:17), so today we stand before you and we cry out, How long, O Lord? How long? O Lord, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. How long will the wicked, O Lord, how long will the wicked prosper? These men and women who pour out arrogant words, evildoers who are full of boasting, who crush your people, Lord, who slay the widow and alien and who murder the fatherless – these who say, “The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob pays no attention.” But does He who implanted the ear not hear? Does He who formed the eye not see? Does He who disciplines nations not punish? Does He who teaches man lack knowledge? (Ps. 94) Far from it, Father! These senseless men do not know; they are fools who do not understand that though they spring up like grass and flourish, they will be forever destroyed. (Ps. 92:6).
God you are light, and in you is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5) You reveal deep and hidden things and you know what lies in darkness (Dan. 2:22). You have promised that there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, or anything that has been kept secret which will not come to light (Mark 4:22). So we ask today for Your light to shine into every dark and secret place the wicked are hiding. Bring them into the light that they may face your justice. Wicked men and women who go on in their ways, day after day, oppressing the innocent and bringing destruction upon them – may today be the day that their deeds, hidden in darkness, are brought into the light and let their names be named in your presence, Father. Let them come before earthly courts and begin to know the charges being leveled against them in the courts of heaven. Bring swift and sure judgment against them and let no one support them, For You, O Lord, are known by your justice, but the wicked are ensnared by the very work of their own hands. You sit on your throne and you judge righteously, King of Heaven who destroys the wicked and blots out their name. Arise, Lord, and let not man triumph; strike them with terror this very day and let them know – they are only men. (Psalm 9)
We call on You, God, because you answer us – give ear to us and hear our prayers. Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from the wicked – those who assail the innocent and vulnerable, mortal enemies who surround our children. They have closed up their callous hearts and their mouths speak arrogance – they have tracked down the righteous and surrounded them with eyes alert to throw them to the ground – they are like lions, hungry for prey, great lions who think they are all powerful, crouching in cover to destroy your precious ones. Rise up, O Lord! Today – we ask that you would confront them and bring them down. Come in rescue with your sword against them. (Ps 17)
For in their arrogance these wicked men have hunted down the weak. Their mouths are full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under their tongues. They lie in wait near the villages; from ambush they murder the innocent, watching in secret for their victims. Like a lion in cover, they wait to catch the helpless to drag them off in their nets. Their victims are crushed and collapse, they fall under their strength. The wicked say to themselves, “God has forgotten; He covers His face and never sees!” Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. For these wicked men revile you. They say to themselves that You will never call them to account. But You, O God, do see trouble and grief; You consider it to take it in hand. The victims can commit themselves to You, for you are the helper of these fatherless ones. Break the arms of the wicked and evil men; call them to account for their wickedness that they thought would never be found out, that these mere men may terrify no more. (Ps 10)
Because of the oppression of the weak, and the groaning of the needy, we petition you now to ARISE, O God and decree justice here on earth, today. (Ps 12:5)
Arise, O Lord, in your anger; rise up against the rage of these enemies. Awake, O God, and decree Your justice. For you are a righteous God, who searches minds and hearts; bring an end to the violence of these wicked ones. For You, O God are a righteous Judge, a God who expresses your wrath every day. Do not relent. Sharpen Your sword; bend the string of Your bow. Prepare your deadly weapons and make ready Your flaming arrows. For he who is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment. Let them dig a hole and scoop it out and fall into the pits they have made. Let the trouble they have caused for the innocent recoil on themselves, their own violence come down upon their own heads. We will give thanks to You, O Lord, because of Your righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. (Psalm 7)
Break their teeth in their mouth, O God! Break out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord! Let them flow away as waters which run continually; when he bends his bow, let his arrows be as if cut in pieces.” (Psalm 58:6-7)
Take up your shield and buckler; arise, Father, and come to the aid of the innocent. May those who seek the lives of the innocent be disgraced and put to shame today. May they be turned back in dismay; may they be like chaff before the wind with the angel of the Lord driving them away; may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them; may ruin overtake them by surprise; may the net they hid entangle them; may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. Then our souls will rejoice in You, Lord and we will delight in your salvation! Our whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, O Lord? (Ps 35)
